WOMEN OF MARLOW | Matilda Green
Welcome back to our ‘Women of Marlow’ journal - a series where we interview like-minded women and friends of Marlow.
Fresh from completing her family home renovation and navigating the beautiful chaos of life as a mum of three, we caught up with Matilda Green to talk style, motherhood and the meaningful projects she’s currently pouring her energy into. From the evolution of her personal aesthetic to what’s inspiring her creatively right now, Matilda shares a thoughtful glimpse into the people, passions and everyday moments bringing her joy.
Between house renovations, family life, work and everything in between, what projects or exciting things are keeping you busy at the moment?
Life has felt very full over the last year, in a wonderful way. I thrive when I am busy, and I enjoy having a lot on. Although having recently ended my podcast ‘Untidy’, I have a little more room to ponder, take stock, and figure out what it is that I really want out of life. My work with B416, which is all about helping young people thrive in a rapidly changing digital world, is something I love doing, and I’m looking forward to putting more time into advocacy in that space. I am also working on a new business, which I’m incredibly excited about. I’m keeping it top secret until I’m further along in the journey, but watch this space!
As a mum of three, podcast host, presenter and content creator, no two days are the same. What does getting dressed look like for you these days?
After having children, I went through a long period of dressing purely for comfort. Usually some form of leggings, with a nice-ish jumper, and sneakers. Hair in a bun. It’s only been within the last year (my 3rd child is now 2 and a half) that I’ve rediscovered the confidence and self-expression that comes with dressing with purpose. I only spend an extra 10-15 minutes in the morning choosing what to wear, but it makes a big difference to my day when I feel put together. Also, asking myself the question “how can I make this outfit more interesting?” has helped push me out of my fashion comfort zone a bit! Plus, it helps me actually wear all the items that are hidden in the back of my wardrobe!
Your home and personal style both feel so distinctly you. Post-renovation, how would you describe the aesthetic you’re most drawn to?
Warm and joyful. I like an aesthetic that feels unique, a bit interesting, and not pretentious.
You’ve built a career around sharing stories and connecting with people. What are some conversations or lessons that have stayed with you recently?
Community is incredibly important to me and is the essence of how I live my life. In a world of AI infiltrating almost every industry, and algorithms trying to divide us, it can feel like the community spirit that is so healing and unifying, is under threat. I had the simplest of interactions the other day in Warkworth, where I live. I was out with my children, and I shared a proper laugh with a stranger on the street over something silly that we both noticed. That little moment of joy had an impact that stretched into the rest of my day, and reminded me of the power of small moments of real connection.
You’re known for your effortless, relaxed approach to style. How has your personal style evolved over the years? Are there any pieces or outfit formulas you find yourself coming back to time and time again?
My style has evolved from flowy-floral-feminine to more of a structured, chic style of feminine. These days, I value good quality fabrics and timeless pieces over trend-led pieces. The outfit that I don’t believe will ever go out of style is a structured pair of pants or jeans, a crisp white t-shirt, a good quality blazer or jacket, and a loafer. It’s a winning combo, even when you can’t be bothered thinking of what to wear!
What Marlow pieces have found a place in your wardrobe lately, and what’s the most-worn item in your wardrobe right now?
I have worn the Curve Barrel Jeans to death since I got them. I get so many compliments on the shape, as they’re so flattering. This Winter, I’ve been wearing the Cashmere Funnel Neck in Nutmeg. It goes with every shade of denim, and elevates an everyday outfit to be far more chic.
What are some of the things you’re most looking forward to for the rest of the year?
I’m looking forward to working on my new business, making memories with my children, and finishing up our renovations so we can just relax and enjoy our home! Until Art finds a new project…
