In the details | Coconut Buttons
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do here at Marlow. Ensuring we are thinking about our impact on the environment and creating a sustainable future, we are always looking at ways to improve. This season we have made a switch to use coconut buttons on a couple of new season pieces, as a sustainable and organic alternative to plastic buttons.
We love the rustic and unique look of these buttons, and knew they would pair nicely with our garments, complimenting our natural fibres such as linen and cotton. Being super lightweight, they are great for summer fabrics.
Coconut buttons are crafted from the shells of the coconut, sourced from coconut palm trees. These trees grow abundantly in tropical regions and are renewable resources, providing a consistent and sustainable source of material for button production. During the coconut processing, coconut buttons are crafted from the waste material. Instead of discarding the shells as wastage, they are repurposed into buttons, maximising resources while reducing wastage. The harvesting and processing of coconut shells typically involve minimal environmental impact when compared to the production of synthetic buttons. Being made from a natural resource, coconut buttons are biodegradable.
