MOTHER'S DAY | In Conversation With Our Founder

IN CONVERSATION WITH OUR FOUNDER, BAILEY MARK

We sat down with Bailey to talk about motherhood, ambition, and the juggle of a working mum, after welcoming her son, Louis.

How has motherhood changed the way you think about what you wear?

Motherhood has completely shifted my perspective. I find myself reaching for pieces that feel soft, natural, and easy to live in. Cashmere has become a constant - something that feels gentle against the skin and brings a sense of comfort to the everyday.

What does the ‘juggle’ look like for you as a working mum?

It’s a constant balance, something I grew up watching my own parents navigate. There are a lot of moving parts, but it’s also incredibly grounding. I want Louis to grow up seeing that life isn’t always perfectly balanced, but you keep showing up.

What do you hope Louis learns from watching you build Marlow?

I want Louis to grow up understanding that pursuing your ambitions takes belief, commitment, and drive.  It doesn’t always come easy, but there’s something incredibly rewarding about building something of your own and watching it grow. I hope he sees that and feels confident to follow his own path and dreams.

What does confidence mean to you now?

Confidence, to me, is feeling comfortable in your own skin. Not being shaped by what others think, but trusting yourself and your instincts. It’s something I’ve grown into over time and something I hope Louis learns by watching. Confidence is at the core of everything we design. We’re not trying to create pieces that are overdone or trend led, it’s about quiet confidence.

Why has cashmere become such an important part of the brand?

Cashmere embodies everything we value. It’s natural, incredibly soft, and made to last. There’s a simplicity to it,  it doesn’t need to be overthought, just classic shapes in beautiful palettes.

What do you hope people feel when they wear Marlow cashmere?

Comfortable, confident, and at ease…. And warm of course - that’s always the goal. Pieces that become part of your life, not just something you wear once, but something you come back to, season after season.

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM BAILEY ABOUT OUR

This year marks our third season of developing our cashmere collection, and it continues to be one of the most loved parts of the brand. Our customers return to it year after year, not just because of the quality, but because of how it makes them feel.

Our cashmere is designed to be lived in, pieces you reach for instinctively on cooler mornings or when you want to feel wrapped in warmth. Timeless garments crafted from exceptional fibres, created to be worn and loved year after year. There is something about cashmere that is hard to explain until you wear it. It’s incredibly soft, naturally warm, and feels luxurious without ever feeling overdone.

When we were designing this year’s cashmere range last winter, I was pregnant with my son Louis. It was a time when everything felt both exciting and uncertain. The world felt unsettled in many ways, and at the same time I was stepping into motherhood for the first time. I found myself thinking a lot about comfort. Clothing became something I thought about differently; I wanted pieces that felt gentle against the skin and were made from beautiful, natural fibres. Things that didn’t ask too much of me. Soft layers that could move with you through the changing rhythms of life, from quiet mornings at home to stepping back out into the world. Cashmere has always had this feeling for me. The moment you put it on, there is an immediate sense of warmth and calm. In uncertain moments, it’s the kind of piece you reach for without thinking; something familiar, comforting, and quietly luxurious.

As a new mum, I’ve come to appreciate comfort and ease more than ever. Holding my son Louis while wrapped in cashmere reminds me why we design these pieces, clothing that feels beautiful, but also truly lived in. Motherhood has a way of slowing you down and making you appreciate the small, quiet moments in life. Spending time with Louis has made me appreciate these small comforts even more. There’s something so lovely about holding him while wearing cashmere; its softness, warmth, and ease become part of those everyday moments together.

At Marlow, we design our cashmere to be worn season after season. Beautiful natural fibres, thoughtful shapes, and pieces that become trusted favourites in your wardrobe.
